Hebrew Word Study –Sinai – סִינַ֖י Samak Yod Nun Yod

Exodus 19:20: “And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses [up] to the top of the mount, and Moses went up.”

The Gematria is a study that treats Hebrew letters by way of their numerical meaning and finds relationships between words based on numeric equivalents.  The Western world rejects any conclusions drawn from such an analysis however Jewish rabbis, scholars, and sages have long ago placed their seal of approval on the use of the Gematria.  Talmudic and Biblical Jewish scholars have even placed specific laws upon the people based solely on the allusions of the Gematria. Universities in the East even study the Gematria.  In fact the Bible teaches the use of the Gematria in Revelations 13:18 “This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. That number is 666.”

Let me give you an example of the use of the Gematria. Moses went up Mt. Sinai and God came down to Mt. Sinai.  This was a meeting between heaven and earth. Where else do we find a meeting between heaven and earth? Genesis 28:13:  “And he (Jacob) dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it!”

Sinai’s is spelled Samek = 60,  Yod = 10, Nun = 50, Yod = 10 which gives a total numerical value of 130.  Ladder in Hebrew is sulam which is spelled Samek = 60, Lamed = 30, and Mem = 40, and also has a numerical value of 130.  Hence there is a relationship between the ladder of Jacob and Mt. Sinai which is a connection between heaven and earth.  What happens when heaven connects with earth or God connects with man? The word  ‘alal is spelled  Ayin = 70, Lamed = 30, and Lamed = 30 which also has a value of  130.  When God connects with man there is ‘alal which is a word for a mother nursing her baby.
