HEBREW WORD STUDY – SLEEP – ישן   Yod Shin Nun

Psalms 121:4: “Behold, he that keepth Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.”

King Solomon had twenty armed guards, the elite, the best of the best warriors guarding his bed chamber every night.  President Trump has guards at every gate of the White House, a full detail of Secret Service agents in uniform and plain clothes swarming the White House.  Every inch of the White House is on camera being watched by an agent. Aircraft and a rapid response team are  on are on ready to respond to the slightest threat.  Yet, you and I have a security greater than all that, we have the God of the Universe keeping watch over us. He is a body guard who does not slumber or sleeps. He is on duty every moment of each day 24/7.  Our divine Body Guard does not slumber and he also does not sleep.  He is the perfect 24 hour body guard.   No bed time, no

In past studies I explained how God does not live in time. We can’t wrap our brain around it in this physical realm.  Yet, we all have our own personal time line our own space that God has given to us so He can be alone with us and not be distracted by anything else.

Thus, He is not only with us 24/7 but we also have the added advantage that He nevers slumbers nor sleeps.   Check out the word sleep which is yashan.  It means to sleep, but is can also mean to grow old.  God will never grow old. We can’t outlive God.  He is there with us never growing too old or feeble to help us or encourage us.

Hoo boy, surely my study doesn’t end here.  I need to take another look at that word yashan and…where it go? Yashan was here in my Hebrew Bible a moment ago. Oh there he is by my Looking Glass, he wants me to go through the Looking Glass into Hebrew Esoteric Land, claims there is something he wants to show me. Well, I am certainly making any progress here at my desk.  I know I have a book to write and a Hebrew manual to complete before the end of this month but I’m an Aspie and until I get this question resolved I can’t work on anything else. So I  guess it is time for a field trip. In the words of an old television entertainer known as the Great One: “And awwwwwwway we go!”

As we cross over my Looking Glass hanging from my Daleth I move from this world into the world of my Hebrew letter friends, I look at my friend Yashan and see that it’s three letters Yod Shin and Nun are dressed in black suits, touching their ear which has some sort of device that has a curly wire coming out of it.  Coming up beside them are three more letters Nun Vav Mem which spell the word Num which means drowsy.  They are conferring and then Yashan turns to me as says: “Quickly, we must get you to a safe house.”  “Huh” I ask,”What did I do, why a safe house?”  Yashan explains that I am part of a witness protection program as I am going to testify in a church this Sunday and there are evil forces that want to prevent me from testifying and will stop at nothing to do it.  Yashan needed to say no more.  They quickly lead me to a house with no windows and is surrounded by a fence and barbed wire.

Immediately the six letters set up guard.  Yashansleep  the Yod Shin and Nun are stationed outside the perimeter and they quickly fall asleep.  Nun Vav Mem Num – Slumber are stationed inside the perimeter and although they are not asleep they are dozing on and off.

“Fine set of Hebrew words you turn out to be,” I declare, “What kind of Hebrew letters are you any ways. You are no protection for…”  I hear something.  They are shadows. One is, ra’a’ which is terror, it is saying: “Give it up, don’t testify or I will destroy you.”  Then I hear another voice, it is ya’ash despair.   I am suddenly filled with a feeling of hopelessness and fear. I don’t want to testify, I don’t want to face that congregation on Sunday. “Yashan, Num where are you, help me.”  I cry out in my despair.  But they are not answering.  Yashan is asleep and Num is dozing off.

I realize the problem, Lo is not here.  Lo is the word no or not.  Lo, Lamed Aleph must stand in front of Yashan and Num so they will not sleep or slumber.

I look at Yashan spelled Yod Shin and Nun.  Before they went off into the land of Nod, the Yod told me to be careful to not be so focused on future events that I miss what is happening in the present.   The Yod is suspended in the air having no foothold in the ground.   If Lo stood in front of Yashan then the Yod would show that  God is not sleeping, He has his attention fixed on the moment at hand. Whatever I am going through in that very moment He is there and fully aware  and not off planning some future event.

The second letter of Yashan or sleep  is the Shin. Shin told me before his unauthorized nap that if Lo stood in front of Yashan then the Shin would represent God’s fiery passion. His fiery passion is available to us 24/7, he is never too tired, never has a headache, He is ready to share His passion with us whenever we are ready.  He has made Himself available to us any moment, not when He just feels like it nor do we have to wait for Him to wake up. Surrounded by His passion I need not fear anything.

I looked at the final letter in sleep which is the Nun.  As he snored away I thought of his last words to me that if Lo stood in front of them then  Nun would remind me  that God will never be distracted nor will he let his attention be diverted because he needs to sleep. We have His attention 24/7.  I just need to have faith which is what the Nun represents.

I look out at the letters for Num who are slumbering. Oh if only the Lo were in front of them.  Then that first letter Nun would create faith in me and that would activate the next letter Vav
